A TRIP TO: CRETE, GREECE

The Greek island of Crete in the Mediterranean off the coast of Libya and Egypt is the next stop in this mini blog series. I visited this island with my family just as I was starting to fall in love with Classics. Crete is thought to be the birthplace of Zeus, the king of the Greek gods, and the island is filled with history and ruins. We stayed for 2 weeks (based in Heraklion, the islands capital), exploring every inch of the island, even going on a few boat trips to neighbouring islands, including Spinalonga.

As well as the delicious and fresh food, the weather was perfect, in fact maybe too perfect! I think I can safely say, Crete is the hottest place I have travelled to, with temperatures hitting 35 degrees during the day and even being very hot at night. My favourite part of our trip here, was visiting the ancient ruins of Malia and Knossos (which supposedly used to be Europe’s largest city). The main attraction here was the restored palace.

Below are some photos of my trip; I know I had fun looking through these old travel photos of mine, maybe someone else will too!

Thank you for all the comments and views on my previous post (on Lanzarote). I didn’t expect it to get that level of attention! Glad to see I am able to keep some spirits up during these hard times! Until the next one,
