I guess I will start this blog post by saying hello, I’m back and… OMG I’M ENGAGED!!! The magical and life changing question was asked to me on the 12th of this month by Peter, and I have barely stopped smiling and staring in awe at my engagement ring since. The surreal-ness of calling each other “fiancé/fiancée” is yet to sink in, and to be honest, I don’t think it will for a while!

My fiancé and I have received nothing but love from our nearest, dearest and all of our friends online, over the phone and face-to-face. I honestly can’t express how loved we both feel after receiving the congratulations and well wishes from everyone who are just as excited as us. Reading all the messages online (and in cards that have been sent to us) and seeing everyone’s reactions have brought me to tears and have made me smile so much that I’ve started to develop quite regular face cramps haha! So, because planning a wedding with my fiancé is going to be a BIG milestone in our lives, I thought “you know what, why not blog about this??” Because let’s face it, who would I be without my blogging?! (And I’ve already received messages asking if there will be a wedding blog post, well you’re in luck because as of now, I have a wedding CATEGORY on my blog, named the “Wedding Journals”)!

So, it’s story time!!! Peter eventually proposing to me was not that surprising to anyone. Him asking for my hand in marriage was a topic that normally popped up in conversations with friends and relatives, normally in the form of, “so when is the wedding hahaha?!?!?” We have definitely talked about it, as, (for those who are new here), we have been in a relationship for almost 5 years now. Even though I knew getting engaged would come around at some point, I was still completely and utterly shocked when he popped the question! Honestly, if you don’t believe me, I’ll send you the secret engagement footage that I didn’t know was being filmed when he proposed: I’m just stood there like a lemon, unable to move. Peter chose to ask me to be his wife in our favourite place, in a field near his house where we have been going to watch the sun set for almost 5 years. The spot where he got down on one knee has such sentimental value to us. It’s the place that holds countless “I love you”s, and the place he reassured me that we would be just fine before I moved to China for a year. Come Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, if there are clear skies, you can probably find us there. It’s ours. Peter (knowing how much I love taking photos of us) set up my tripod so we were able to capture the exact moment (7:36pm!) he proposed in some snaps and a video as well, images that I will cherish FOREVER!

Everything about our engagement was perfect and beautifully romantic; made even more so by the GORGEOUS moonstone and rose gold vined ring which now sits comfortably on my finger. My engagement ring is so unique and exquisite and even changes colour in different lights. I can’t stop looking at it, and have been receiving compliments on it since our engagement! We ended the evening with Peter’s family, a bottle of champagne and excitement about all the future plans we are yet to make! We made the decision to tell our relatives and close friends the fabulous news on the evening of our engagement but left it til the next afternoon to break the news on social media. This meant we were able to truly enjoy our celebrations without our phones going off every 5 seconds. The next day, we sent the word out, enjoyed a delicious and beautiful BBQ in the mini heatwave we had, and that evening I went home to celebrate with my family. Now the next thing to look forward to is a Stringer-Marshall dinner when it is safe to do so!

I don’t know how often I will be updating this section of my blog. My plan is to pop something up every now and again, posting updates with the wedding planning, tips for other “brides-to-be” I may come across, or anything I fancy really. I think documenting this new adventure will be as exciting for you all to read as it is for me to write! There are obviously A LOT of decisions that we need to make now; first dance, venue, dresses, colour schemes, a DATE?!?… the list is endless! But the first step we have made is buying a wedding planner so we can begin to lay out our ideas in front of us. We know planning this day will be stressful, probably very expensive but exciting all the same! We’re looking forward to meeting up with our friends, to celebrate our news with a glass of bubbly (shoutout to Chris Bann for being the first and celebrating with us this weekend)!

From walking to lectures together in our first year of university, to handing in our dissertations together in our last year, making late night pizzas on a Friday night in our uni houses, graduating together and spending every possible moment we could video calling each other while I was on the other side of the world, our NEXT adventure together is our biggest one yet, and I am thrilled to be able to plan it with Peter, my fiancé.
