MY 2018!

With 2018 having come to an end, I thought I would do a review of my year and all I have accomplished in the last 12 months. It has been a year of positive and healthy change, some stress and saying farewell to my time at university. 2018 has probably been my best year to date, and I have a feeling 2019 will certainly top it!

2018 has been a year of me having a more positive view of my body image. With it being my last year of university, I wanted to make an effort to attend balls and parties with my friends to celebrate the end of 3 glorious years at Royal Holloway. I always struggle to find clothes (especially dresses) to fit me. But this year I have been learning to embrace my body shape and decreased weight. Part of my increasing confidence in what I wear has been because of those around me. This year, I attended the RHUL Summer Ball, and after struggling to find the perfect dress and feeling uncomfortable for the beginning of the night, I was quickly reassured by my friends who helped make me feel beautiful. The Summer Ball was one of the best nights of my 2018!

March and April were very stressful months for me with exams and the deadline for my dissertation. It was incredibly fulfilling completing my degree and its one of my proudest moments. It was made infinitely better by the arrival of snow! And snow at Royal Holloway, Founders is magical! Campus was turned into a Winter Wonderland within a matter of hours 5 minutes from my doorstep.

Of course, graduating was the best moment of my year. I never thought I would get there, and I am so happy I made my family proud of me. It was the perfect day, celebrating beside my friends and fellow course mates. My graduation will always be one of my fondest memories!

I finally completed my Duke of Edinburgh Award this summer with a trip to Wales to complete a snorkelling course, something wildly out of my comfort zone but thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding. Seven years after starting my DofE journey, I have finished it and am now waiting on confirmation to attend one of the palaces in London to pick up my award!

For someone who used to have a fear of flying, this year I have done a lot to overcome this by travelling around Europe. I haven’t been to many places, but I definitely feel more confident now with getting on a plane to China next month. Going to Athens in particular was a dream come true and reminded me why I love Classics so much!

In November I celebrated 3 years with my other half. Peter has been an amazing support system throughout all the difficulties that this year has presented. Anyone who knows me well knows that I never thought I would meet anyone at university. The last 3 years have been an absolute dream and I cannot imagine my life without Peter in it! I cannot wait to see what 2019 brings for us (even if I will be away for most of it!)

Finally, 2018 has been the year I have started this blog. Never in a million years did I think it would do as well as it is! In just over 4 months I have reached almost 10,000 views which is CRAZY to me! I have received messages from friends, friends of friends and others commenting on how much my blog is helping with their mental health. Writing posts has been so therapeutic for me, and even though I have just started it, re-reading my previous posts has acted like a progress tracker. Thank you to everyone who takes the time out of their day to read my posts, it really means so much!

2018 has been magnificent and I’m hoping 2019 will be the same, if not, better!

Sending everyone love and positivity for 2019! Happy New Year everyone!
