Hey everyone,

Last year, my boyfriend and I decided to celebrate our two-year anniversary in Paris! I thought I would write a post on it to share some pictures in case anyone reading is planning on going soon and would like some recommendations on what to see!

Peter and I went to Paris on 9th December last year. We decided to go after the term finished at uni, to celebrate our anniversary (which is on 29th November) and to also celebrate working really hard in the first few months of our last year at Royal Holloway. We booked our flights quite late but still managed to get a good deal flying from Heathrow Terminal 5 on British Airways. We obviously wanted to make this trip as affordable as possible and as such we booked a hotel located in the 18th arrondissement and close to metro stations so we could get everywhere quickly and cheaply.

You can’t go to Paris without visiting the Eiffel Tower, so, much to Peter’s disagreement out of his fear of heights, we visited the tower! Unfortunately, we happened to go on one of the windiest days of the season, meaning we were not allowed to go to the very top. Also, if you do decide to take a trip to this city, don’t forget to visit the tower when its sparkles which occurs on the hour, every hour for a few mins. It truly is magical, especially at Christmas time, when we went!

Of course, I wanted to use my trip to Paris as an excuse for Christmas shopping! Luckily, the city has no shortage of shopping malls, also meaning countless Sephora stores where I indulged my makeup addiction! One shopping centre that was particularly impressive was Les Galeries LaFayette, which puts the Christmas decorations of Harrods in London to shame! I would definitely recommend visiting here.

As a Classics student, I could not go without visiting the Louvre Museum and the fascinating collection of Greek antiquities, in particular the plethora of Athena iconography which came in very useful as sources for my dissertation! I would have spent all day in there and I will definitely be going there again soon! And of course, the world-famous Mona Lisa is located in the Louvre, certainly worth seeing.

Going around Paris with my best friend and other half at Christmas was wonderful! Although the weather wasn’t very agreeable, Paris is a gorgeous city and was a perfect place to celebrate two years with Peter!

I hope you all enjoyed reading!
